RESULT: 1-2, +20.5 Update after round 2: Mickelson has certainly found his form with a blistering couple of almost record breaking days. And therein lies the only worry - he has this habit of promising so much but finding a way to fall at the final hurdle. To be fair the lip out for the 59 was very unlucky, but in the second round when needing only a par to set a new 36 hole all time scoring record - arguably the greater achievement - his failure was entirely self inflicted. If he continues to play anything like as well as the first two rounds he will see out the victory comfortably but there is just always this feeling with Phil that it's never that simple. As such I think it's worth laying a little off at this point. LAY Phil Mickelson to a liability of 8pts @1.83 (i.e. stake 9.64pts) position now: Bubba Watson: 38.44 Phil Mickelson: 20.5 The field: 6.94 ---------------------------------- BACK Bubba Watson to win 30pts @21 (i.e. stake 1.5pts) BACK Phil Mickelson to win 30pts @26 (i.e. stake 1.2pts) Bubba was a bet last week only to pull out at the last minute with illness. He now says he feels rested and ready for a big week in Phoenix. He was 5th here last year and it is a course that can sometimes be well suited to the big hitter with J.B. Holmes twice a winner here. So I see no reason to not stick with him. All the focus this week seems to be on what Phil Mickelson has said off the course, but he has a great record here, and on the west coast in general, and while he hasn't yet shown top form this season the same could be said before his win at Pebble last year. |
