RESULT: 1-3, +2.57 update after round 3: LAY Jim Furyk to a liability of 25pts @5.5 (i.e. stake 5.56pts) position now: Jim Furyk: 23.63 The Field: 2.57 Difficult one to call at this point. Horschel's excellent recent form continues but he is in unchartered territory now. In general that leads to a negative reaction but it's really an unknown how he will handle it. Plenty of others around who are capable of winning and Furyk is one of them, although he has had so many disappointments since he last managed it that his mental strength has to be at least questioned. I think it's worth laying some off here to guarantee a profit on the week whilst leaving some running on Furyk and hoping he can overcome the mental barriers and find his way back in to the winners circle. ----------------------------------- update after round 2: BACK Retief Goosen to win 25pts @32 (i.e. stake 0.81pts) Goosen has one shot at getting in to The Masters next week - he has to win here. He is on the upswing again after a lengthy period out following back surgery which apparently has done the trick - i.e. the back problems that had hampered him for years are now fixed. He is focussed on getting back in to the top 50 and back in to the majors and has also apparently taken huge inspiration from Els' win at The Open last year that guys who are getting to his stage in life can still do it. I think he will be desperate to get to Augusta next week and I think he has the belief that he belongs there. --------------------------------------- BACK Jim Furyk to win 50pts @32 (i.e. stake 1.61pts) BACK Ben Curtis to win 50pts @90 (i.e. stake 0.56pts) Simply too big a price on a player of Furyk's class. He hasn't played the course before but it's only been in use since 2010 and each of the three winners it was their first time playing on it too. Furyk's one disadvantage is his lack of length, but if Curtis can win here then length is not at a premium on this course. Speaking of Curtis it seems a large price for the defending champion, who hasn't been setting the heather on fire so far this year but is ticking along ok and there aren't that many players in this field who can match his 4 career wins. |
