Poulter looks worth taking on this week having contended in the early rounds at Merion only to fade away at the weekend. The Englishman traditionally takes a week off after a major and on the few occasions he hasn't, his performances have tended to be below par. Given that he played immediately prior to the US Open in the St Jude as well I wouldn't be surprised if amental fatigue becomes a factor. Hoffman in contrast usually perorms well immediately after majors and has a strong course record. He looks worth following as the even money outsider.
