JIMMY WALKER to beat BRANDT SNEDEKER 10 pts @ 10/11 (Ties included) at Ladbrokes

A sharp intake of breath from the golf betting world, a match bet that is opposing last year's winner of the very same tournament?

You read correctly, I feel that Walker can turn over Snedeker this weekend, my primary reason being the poor putting form of Snedeker. When Snedeker is on form, it is mainly due to his putting prowess. He has failed to set the Tour alight for quite some time now. When Snedeker won the AT&T in 2013, his form figures going into the tourney read 4,3,T23,T2,2. He was a PGA Tour Win waiting to happen, draining putts from everywhere. One year on we are a far cry from that rich vein of form. Snedeker injured his knee jumping off a Segway in November 2013, and even though he claims to have made a full recovery, the time away from golf has put that return to form back by some margin. Whilst he is not in a major slump, until there is some semblance of the incredible form that took the honours at the AT&T last year, I am happy to oppose him.

Jimmy Walker however, has, in my opinion, the game to challenge for the top prize this week, let alone beating Snedeker here. Walker is hitting big tee shots (8th for distance), has a tidy 71.37% GiR, and, most eye-catchingly, is 3rd for total strokes gained in putting, a stat Snedeker used to have, and would love to have next to his name this season. AT&T form for Walker reads T3,T9,T9 the past 3 seasons. He clearly loves playing this tournament, and the fact he enters this week as a dual winner for 2014 on the PGA Tour, he looks a force to be reckoned with this weekend.

HUNTER MAHAN to win Group A 1pt @ 9/2 (Ladbrokes) Vs J Day, D Johnson, P Mickelson, J Spieth

I mentioned last week that I was happy to oppose Hunter Mahan in a 3 ball match bet until he hits some form. He showed that to good effect last weekend, finishing with one of his customary late streaks that nearly saw him force a playoff. There can be strong cases for all his opponents in the Group, but at 9/2 I feel that Ladbrokes have priced Mahan up by a point more than I expected.

JIMMY WALKER to win Group B @ 3/1 (Ladbrokes) Vs B Snedeker, G McDowell, C Kirk, J Furyk

I have argued the bull case for Walker in my matchbet above, and I feel he is more than capable of topping this Group.

WIN DOUBLE : 0.5pts HUNTER MAHAN (9/2) to win Group A and JIMMY WALKER (3/1) to win Group B with Ladbrokes.
