PHOENIX OPEN

BUBBA WATSON to BEAT LEE WESTWOOD 8pts @ 10/11 (Ties included) with Stan James.

Bubba over Lee is my main selection for the weekend. I won't insult the intelligence of esteemed Tour-Tips members and go into deep detail about the putting issues both Watson and Westwood have had in their career. Safe to say, it is still prevalent in both players as we go into this tournament.

That said, I feel other aspects of Westwood's game have gone sideways to backwards, while Bubba still keeps booming it, and, something which may surprise people who do not follow the stats that closely, his GIR stats are still as good as ever, 14th for 2014 and 5th, 2nd, 9th in the 3 seasons prior to that. He is giving himself enough chances!

Both are 'mood' players to me. If they like the course, the crowd, the set-up, they perform well to them. It just feels to me that Phoenix Open, with it's raucous crowd, could just be the catalyst for Bubba to put in a big putting performance this week, certainly enough to beat a below-par Westwood, who is making his maiden appearance at the Phoenix Open. You either love or hate this unique tournament on the USPGA Tour calendar, and I think Westwood will be erring towards the latter this weekend.

MATT EVERY to win 3 ball Vs Hunter Mahan and Ryan Palmer 1pt win at 15/8 with Sky BET

Matt Every has had his best ever start to a season on the PGA Tour.

I believe Hunter Mahan is a player who needs a few competitive rounds under his belt until he gets in the groove. A T43rd finish in the season opener might have blown a few cobwebs away, but I am happy to oppose him until we see him hit some decent form, even though he has shown some to good effect in Arizona over the past few seasons.

Ryan Palmer has also started 2014 well, and has some decent form at the Phoenix Open too.

However, the fact Matt Every finished T9th last year and a T8th in 2010 (his only 2 visits to the Phoenix Open), plus he went into both those tournaments out of form, leads me to think 15/8 is a big enough price to make a small investment here.

Good luck!
