For the seventh straight year, the Sanderson Farms Championship heads to the Country Club of Jackson in Mississippi. This par 72 measures in at 7,441 yards and features quick Bermuda greens – good news for some of those who prefer this type of putting surface. It’s been a trappy event for bettors and that’s due to the fact that every winner at Jackson was tasting their first ever PGA Tour win. Because of that, we’ve seen some fancy prices, none more so than Peter Malnati in 2015 who touched 500 on the exchanges. Cameron Champ took the title two years ago and gave this insight: “Obviously driver is the key out here, I think. If I hit driver well out here, like I said, it’s a very scoreable course.” It’s a fairly weak field given that many of the top names are pacing themselves ahead of some big events in the final few months of the season. That includes The Masters on November 12-15. Angles to consider 1/ Strokes Gained: Off The Tee Backing up Champ’s quotes are these pretty clear-cut stats. Last year, the top five finishers – Sebastian Munoz, Sungjae Im, Byeong-Hun An, Carlos Ortiz and Kevin Streelman – ranked 4th, 10th, 6th, 2nd and 9th in SG: Off The tee. Go back to 2018 and the front three – Champ, Corey Conners and Sam Burns – were 2nd, 4th and 3rd in that category. 2/ Par 5 Performance Country Club of Jackson has four par 5s and scoring on those long holes counts for plenty. Champ ranked 1st for Par 5s (-12) when taking the title in 2018 while 2019 winner Munoz was 5th (-9) last year. 3/ Prowess on Bermuda The Champion Bermuda greens aren’t for everyone but some relish it. The recent Wyndham Championship at Sedgefield had that same grass so can be a good guide. 4/ Making birdies Check out the winning scores in the six years at Jackson. Starting from 2014: -16, -18, -20, -19, -21 and -18. That birdie count needs to be high. Selections The above angles have been used to create a shortlist from which the following players are selected. Doc Redman The 22-year-old is clearly a star of the future and comes to Jackson in great form. He shot 67-64-63-68 to finish third at the Wyndham Championship (Bermuda greens) and added third at the Safeway Open last time thanks to a closing 62. He clearly makes a bunch of birdies and helps set them up by strong driving. Redman ranked 30th for SG: Off The Tee last season. Cameron Davis Like Redman, the Aussie is another seeking a first PGA Tour win and this tournament has been the ideal place for those hoping to shed their maiden tag. Davis was 21st for Par 5 Scoring last season, 23rd for Birdie Average and 55th for SG: Off The Tee. Tied 28th here last year, he has the current form to step up. His recent good play includes a trio of closing 65s on the Bermuda of the Wyndham Championship. Sebastian Munoz Munoz took the title here last year and has been in excellent form again in recent weeks with two top eights in his last three starts. In the campaign just completed, he was 50th for SG: Off The Tee, 43rd for Par 5s and 29th in Birdie Average so it’s pretty clear why he had the skills to do so well at this course.
