Outright plays (1 unit unless stated):
Hale Irwin to win 7/1 @ Centrebet
Have three of the last four winners of this event as selections this week. Irwin
is win-only, but he has had a great season so far. He won the Senior Skins by a
record margin and the ACE Group Classic and he has finished 2nd in both starts
since that win, but on both occasions he was only one shot out of a playoff. A
winner in 1998, I don't see any reason why he should not repeat the feat.
Allen Doyle to win 20/1 e.w. @ Centrebet
Not quite a continuation of last year's incredible consistency in securing
top-10 finishes, but he has still secured three from five starts. Basically a
selection because of his course form: a winner in 2000 and top-3 in 1999 and
last year when a selection. He should make it four top-10s from six.
Gary McCord to win 20/1 e.w. @ Centrebet
Has become a consistent choice since the last few months of last season. Still
can't break through and win for the first time since 1999, and hence the
double-figure price, but has become as consistent a player as Doyle was for the
whole of last season. A winner three years ago on this course.
Irwin is now available at Five
Dimes @ 7/1
54-hole play (1 unit unless stated):
Doug Tewell to beat Bob Gilder -115 @
Bet365
Five starts, five top-20 finishes and a win at the Verizon
Classic. An impressive start to the season from Tewell and while last year's
surprise Rookie of the Year is fully capable of winning this event, I have to
side with a player who ranks 1st on Tour in driving accuracy and 2nd in greens
in regulation.
Final update:
Matchups: 1-0; +1.00 units
Tewell/Gilder WON by 3
Outrights: 2-1; +8.00 units
Irwin 1st
Doyle 2nd
McCord 18th
Getting to really like this event! Not quite
the 1-2-3 of last year, but 1st and 2nd and a win on the week's matchup makes
for a very satisfying event
