Outright Picks - Champions Tour

Tipster: Stanley

Bank of America Championship (2pts):

D.A. Weibring to win 14/1 e.w. @ SkyBet
This was one of Weibring's first starts on the Champions Tour and he closed with a final round 65 to finish 4th last year. For a whole year, he has been playing on courses as a rookie and now he that he has started playing on these courses for a second time, he should do even better. It has been a successful season already with a win and seven top-10 finishes and this should be at least another top-10 finish.

Tom Jenkins to win 20/1 e.w. @ SkyBet
Jenkins can also lay claim to a win this season and six top-10 finishes, a record that means he lies 3rd (alongside Purtzer) in the 'top-10 finishes' stat category on Tour behind Morgan (who is not playing) and Weibring. His record on this course is very consistent with five top-20 finishes in the last six years, including one top-5 finish. But this has so far been his best season to date and the 6th-ranked player in terms of scoring average and money won should another good week at Nashawtuc. A number of firms offer 25/1, but will take the lower odds, but an extra place with SkyBet.

Tom Purtzer to win 33/1 e.w. @ William Hill
Purtzer had two bad tournaments in May and in his last tournament, he fell from 3rd with one round to go to 31st at the end. Yet he still ranks 1st in Scoring Average and All-Round Ranking (plus 1st in driving distance, greens in regulation, birdie average and par breakers). He showed a return to form for 36 holes in his last event and statistically he is the best player on Tour this season. So having finished 4th on his debut here last year, he certainly warrants support at this price.

Final update: 2-1; +7.75pts

Weibring 2nd
Jenkins 9th
Purtzer 2nd

All three in the top-10 and two in the places, but still a frustrating near-miss. Purtzer had been the leader by 1 after the 1st round and by 2 after the 2nd round and did little wrong until he was forced to be too attacking in the final round. It took a very impressive 64 from Stadler to deny him victory and a bumper payout.
