Bayer Advantage Celebrity Pro-Am (2pts):
Allen Doyle to beat Bob Gilder -109 @
Centrebet
Siding with the consistent Doyle who has finished in the top-15 in each
of last four starts. It is also notable that he finished 11 shots ahead
of Gilder last year.
Tom Watson to beat Hale Irwin -118 @
Centrebet
Watson returns to his birthplace of Kansas City this week and should be
expected to put in a strong performance in front if a strong following.
Irwin's renaissance may have netted him two victories in the last two
months, but he still not consistently at the top of his game. Close
match, but I'll back Watson in Kansas City.
Tom Watson to beat Craig Stadler -109 @
Centrebet
Same here, though two differences. Stadler is at a disadvantage from not
having played in the inaugural event on this course last year and he is
at a disadvantage from having other things on his mind. Last Monday he
was arrested for drunken driving and after he pleaded guilty at the
hearing on Wednesday, he was ordered to participate in an alcohol
awareness class and attend a victim impact panel. "I'm embarrassed and
feel awful about it" were his words and he subsequently withdrew from
last week's event. Hardly ideal preparation for his next Tour event.
Final update: 1-2-0; -2.54pts
Doyle/Gilder WON by 4
Watson/Irwin LOST by 3
Watson/Stadler LOST by 5
Half right! Doyle played very well and was declared the winner and
both Irwin and Stadler played poorly. But Watson had a torrid time on
the greens and a loss on the matchups rounded off a very unsatisfactory
event.
