Allianz Championship
FINAL RESULT: 1-2; -3.75pts
Hatalsky 17th
Quigley 4th
Purtzer 37th
Could have been a whole lot better. Hatalsky started the final round in
2nd place and Quigley rose as high as 2nd place during the final round,
but a four-way share of two place positions is the only return on the
event.
Outright plays (total stake per play: 2pts)
Morris Hatalsky to win 14/1 e.w. @
Boyle Sports
The most consistent player on Tour, Hatalsky ranks 1st in Top-10
Finishes with seven in his last eight starts, including 2nd and 4th in
his last two starts. The change of venue will certainly help as he
failed to finish in the top-10 in any of three starts in Des Moines, but
this is a completely different course setup and event history will mean
very little this week. Short odds, but not as short as Skybet who make
him 8/1 2nd-favourite. He should at least be in contention for another
place finish
Dana Quigley to win 14/1 e.w. @
Boyle Sports
Quigley has just one less top-10 finish this year and is also on a run
with four consecutive top-10 finishes. Mike Reid denied him victory last
week, but he is not one to brood so long as he can get back on the
course. The 'Iron Man' of this Tour is now ranked 1st in the Money List
as well as 1st in the All-Round Ranking and should bounce back in style
this week.
Tom Purtzer to win 33/1 e.w. @
BetInternet
Purtzer has been every bit as consistent as Hatalsky this season, just
not at the same exceptionally high standard. Whereas Hatalsky leads the
Tour in top-10 finishes, Purtzer would do the same in a top-20 category.
He has finished inside that mark in nine of ten Champions Tour starts
this year, recovering well from an opening 77 last week (93rd after
Round 1) to reach that mark again. A slow start could have been expected
after he played in The Colonial the previous week, closing with a 64 to
finish 21st. That's a very impressive performance for a 53-year-old and
if he started slowly last week because of it, that should not be the
case this week. Purtzer was born in Iowa and there's nothing like a home
tournament and a home crowd if you're playing well. |
