Pooley/Pate TIED
Gilder/Smyth LOST by 3
Gilder/Smyth LOST by 2 Very poor tips! I very rarely use the "injured
player" line as a reason for a play and this week had the choice of
three to choose from: Smyth who had heart surgery, Eaks who had back
problems and Doyle who had knee problems. Determined not to overplay the
"injured player" line, I decided to only play it on one player and he
was the only one not to withdraw! An unhappy way to finish an otherwise
successful Champions Tour season.

Don Pooley to beat Jerry Pate -114 @
Expekt
Pate did finish three shots ahead of Pooley last week, but it was the
first time that he had done so since August and only the second time in
their last common events. Pate is simply not as consistent as Pooley who
finished in the top-20 in each of his last six starts (Pate has done so
twice over the same period) and does not has as good a record in
California. In the five Champions Tour events in that State this year,
Pooley has finished in the top-10 every time, being on average seven
shots ahead of Pate each time.

There may be a chance that Smyth may not even play in this event or that
he will withdraw during it as he had emergency heart surgery last week.
He had been entered for last week's event but took up the offer of a
free heart check only to find out that there was problem with the
coronary artery and that he was very close to having a fatal heart
attack! Given that Smyth has finished ahead of Gilder only once since
July, Gilder should have had the edge in this match had he been fit, but
he is not so I'll gladly take these odds and wish Smyth a safe and
pressure-less event. |
