FINAL RESULT: 1-1; +4.00pts
Weibring wd
Jenkins 2nd
Another very strong challenge from one of the selections this week falls short
at the very end. Jenkins held the sole lead after six holes of the final round,
but then went 5-4-5 and never regained the lead. In the end, it was Irwin's
eagle at the penultimate hole that earned him the two-shot win. Weibring had
been inside the top-20 after the 1st round but withdrew before the 2nd round
with high blood pressure problem.
Outright plays (total stake per play: 2pts) D.A. Weibring to win 16/1 e.w.

Good price for a player who ranks in the top-3 on the Money List and in Greens
in Regulation, which are important around this course, and 1st in Top-10
Finishes on Tour. He secured his 13th top-10 finish of the season in his last
outing when finishing 4th and has a particularly good record on this course: he
won in 2003 and finished 8th as defending champion last year, when in 3rd place
heading into the final round. He really should win more events than he does, but
his odds should certainly be closer to SkyBet's offering of 10/1. Tom
Jenkins to win 28/1 e.w. @

With Mark McNulty withdrawing from the field, Jenkins (2nd) and Weibring (3rd)
comprise the top-ranked players in Greens in Regulation this week. And also
ranked in the top-5 on the Money List, Jenkins is certainly capable of earning
his second win of 2005 this week. And that is certainly helped by his course
form which has improved every year. In the four years that this event has been
played at Prestonwood, he has finished 38th (2001), 11th (2002), 4th (2003) and
2nd (2004). It would be a very profitable week if that trend continues! |
