Toshiba Senior Classic FINAL RESULT:
1-1-0; -0.20pts Fleisher/Doyle LOST by 1
Purtzer/Nelson WON by 9 Split the plays, but really looked like a
sweep until Fleisher played the last four holes - a stretch that
includes two par-fives - in one-over-par. He'd been five-under-par for
the previous 14 holes. Matchup plays (2pts): Bruce Fleisher
to beat Allen Doyle -110 @

Doyle does have a good history in this event, but it was only from 2000
to 2003 that he finished ahead of Fleisher. Last year, he finished 36th
and eight shots behind his opponent. And current form does not suggest
that Doyle should win - he has finished ahead of Fleisher only once in
five common events this year and that sole win was by a single shot in
the Turtle Bay Championship. A couple of years ago, this would have been
an even match, but not at the moment. Tom Purtzer to beat Larry
Nelson -114 @
Expekt
Two players who tend to carry more than their fair share of injuries and
will have been affected by the scrapping of carts on most Champions Tour
events this season. Purtzer's back troubles and lack of cart provision
may be one reason why he has yet to play at his best this season, but he
has still finished ahead of Nelson in two out of three common events
this season and is the defending champion. Nelson's form on this course
was very impressive until last year, but at the age of 57 he should be
the player whose competitiveness should decline more permanently as a
result of the Tour's new cart policy.
