FINAL RESULT: 1-2; +1.25pts
Stadler 44th
Edwards 2nd
Pooley 32nd
Two par-5s in the last hole and Edwards failed to birdie either one when just
one of them would have meant a playoff berth against Simpson. Haven't been able
to buy a winner for six months!

Didn't play as well as hoped last week until the final round when only the
victorious Eduardo Romero shot a lower score than him. But hopefully that
closing 66 and his 4th and 2nd place finishes in his previous two starts will
give him the confidence and momentum to win again around Pebble Beach. He was
victorious in 2004, finished 2nd last year and had a very good history in the
AT&T Pebble Beach Pro-Am, finishing 3rd as late as 1999. Shorter odds than last
week, but his history on this course makes him a better value play this week.
David Edwards to win 25/1 e.w. @

Backing another of last week's failures, though, Edwards did perform far better
than the other two selections. He recovered very well after an opening 74 and it
was only a calamitous last four holes on Sunday that took him out of the top-5
places. He may not have played in this event previously, but he does have a good
record around Pebble Beach, making the cut every time when returning to the AT&T
Pebble Beach Pro-Am from 2003 to 2005. And he has won on this Tour already, so
he is certainly value at higher odds than last week.
Don Pooley to win 33/1 e.w. @

Pooley rather lost his form after opening the season in impressive style with
finishes of 2nd, 4th and 6th and that has largely been a result of his putting,
which came to a head when he broke it over his knee at the 3M Championship. He
picked up a new putter and immediately finished 3rd and 9th in his last two
events. A player's form is turned around on the basis of such things and he
should be confident of repeating his top-5 finish of last year. |
