Brad Bryant to beat Scott Simpson -125 @
The Greek
Simpson has finished ahead of Bryant only twice in their last eight common
events and both occasions he needed to finish in the top-5 to do so. A repeat of
that seems unlikely as he is making his debut on this course, so this should be
a win for the very consistent outright selection.
Gil Morgan to beat Allen Doyle +100 @
The Greek
They have the wrong player favoured here. When Doyle won the U.S. Senior Open
last year, he finished 46th the following week and trailed Morgan by nine shots.
A similar letdown to winning such an important Major is expected this week. And
if that were not enough, last week was the first time in four months that Doyle
has finished ahead of Morgan (8 common events).
Jay Haas to beat Fred Funk +109 @
Pinnacle
And the wrong player is favoured here. Haas is the leading money winner on Tour
and leads the Charles Schwab Cup Points table, so he is currently on track for
the Tour's Player of the Year and yet he is a large underdog against a player
who is struggling with his putting? If Funk was ever going to finish ahead of
Haas it would be in a USGA event and he failed to do that last week. In fact, he
has failed to do that in either of their last two common PGA Tour events (U.S.
Open and Wachovia Championship). Knowing where to hit the drives is very
important around the TPC of Michigan and Haas has that experience from playing
here last year, Funk does not. I still can't understand these odds.
