Buy Scott Hoch over Ian Woosnam 18H MB at 6 with Sporting Index for 0.25 Pts M/U 0, Loss 1.5 Pts Last week we opposed Woosnam in what was one of the best value prices I have come across in a while and he won, but that was just one example of what was a very frustrating week. This week starts afresh though and there are 6 quotes worthy of interest in the first round of this event, note though, that it starts on Thursday. Hoch has a record this year of 5 Top 5's in his last 8 starts and that far outweigh's Woosie's Champions tour record so far, with last week producing his best finish yet of 26th in 5 starts, the others no better than 50th. Hoch should be a heavier favourite than he is. Buy Eduardo Romero over Hale Irwin 18H MB at 5 with Sporting Index for 0.25 Pts M/U 22, Profit 4.25 Pts Irwin is no longer the player that used to dominate on this tour and results from 2008 bear this out. A best placed 18th in 9 starts and an average FP of 38 is a sign of decline and 5 seems low against a player who in the same timespan has recorded 5 Top 20's in 7 starts and averages 19th place. Buy David Edwards over Costantino Rocca 18H MB at 3 with IG Sport for 0.25 Pts M/U -13, Loss 4 Pts Rocca missed the cut by some way in the recent Italian Open on the main European tour although he has had some great success on the European seniors tour. Over in the States though, he has only started once, never bettering 74 in any round and finishing 66th in this event a year ago. Edwards has started 9 events this year and averages 35th place which isn't great but he is probably worthy, given the location, of being about 2-5 in this match. Sell Sandy Lyle over Jerry Pate 18H MB at -1.5 with Sporting Index for 0.25 Pts M/U 34, Loss 8.87 Pts Lyle, like Woosie, has struggled so far on this tour and whilst the gap in ability between him and Pate is nowhere near the differences between the players in most our other match-ups, the price reflects this. Pate should be clear favourite though, as Lyle has yet to better 25th in 5 starts, averaging 44th place whereas Pate has a win and three further Top 20's in 8 starts. Buy Joey Sindelar over Sam Torrance 18H MB at 6 with Sporting Index for 0.25 Pts M/U 0, Loss 1.5 Pts Torrance is the odd one out amongst these players in that he hardly plays at all now, and certainly only turns up in the States to play Senior majors and play the week before as prep. He played last week for the first time since a missed cut in Asia in March, an event which was his first start of 2008. Last week he finished 44th and his opponent, Sindelar, in only his 4th Seniors start since turning 50 finished 11th. Buy Tim Simpson over Sam Torrance 18H MB at 4 with IG Sport for 0.25 Pts M/U 28, Profit 6 Pts Two seconds and an average of 25th place suggests Simpson is underpriced against the Ayrshireman and although not a great fan of opposing the same player twice, especially when both are buys, it does seem these prices are value, and possibly the best of the 6 we have traded. 2-4 -5.62 Pts |
