Tour Championship Outright plays (0.75
units): Scott Dunlap to win 25/1 e.w. @ BlueSq
Swerving Immelman who is a little too short at 3/1 and has everything to lose
this week, so hoping that at least one of the following join him on the
leaderboard. Dunlap was a runner-up in the Vodacom Players Championship last
month and has started 2003 in similar fashion, finishing 30th, 15th and then 5th
last week. No course form, but if he can continue that trend it will be good
enough. Andrew McLardy to win 33/1 e.w. @ Paddy Power
McLardy has secured four top-20 finishes in his last five events, including his
2nd place finish last week. That is an excellent run of form and together with a
4th place finish last year, he should be much shorter than 33s even with
Immelman in the field. Bruce Vaughan to win 40/1 e.w. @ Bet365
and
Stan James
Returned to form to provide a handsome dividend last week as a place-only play.
No such options this week, but with equally impressive course form at Leopard
Creek (17th in 2001 and 2nd last year), he could go close again ... provided his
knee holds out!
Matchup plays (0.75 units unless stated): Scott
Dunlap to beat Jean Hugo -111 @ Expekt [1.5 units]
Expecting a big week from Dunlap and so will side with him again. They have both
played the last four Sunshine Tour events and Dunlap has prevailed three times;
the only loss being when Hugo came so close to winning the South African Open.
Dunlap has no course form, but with Hugo shooting 79-77-67-74 to finish 49th on
his previous appearance, he doesn't look like a contender this week. Louis
Oosthuizen to beat Richard Sterne -118 @ Expekt
Schwartzel may have stolen the show at the South African Open, but the young
Oosthuizen also looks an exciting prospect. The 2002 Irish Amateur Champion
missed his first cut - the 2002 South African Open - but have since finished
inside the top-30 in each of his subsequent five events. Sterne may be more
experienced having spent a season on the European Challenge Tour, but trails
Oosthuizen 1-3-0 in the last four events. Tjaart Van Der Walt to beat Charl
Schwartzel -118 @ Expekt [-125 @ Five
Dimes]
Continuing to oppose Schwartzel after the hype of the South African Open. He has
missed the cut and finished 51st since that top-3 finish. With no course form,
he is easy to oppose again, particularly against someone who is playing well and
has played the course beforehand. Also have lean on Dunlap over Otto [-115
Five Dimes], but that's probably enough on a player without course experience
for this tournament.
Final update: Matchups: 2-1-0; +1.37 units
Dunlap/Hugo WON by 9
Oosthuizen/Sterne WON by 2
Van Der Walt/Schwartzel LOST by 6 Outrights; 0-3; -2.25 units Dunlap 13th
McLardy 50th
Vaughan 22nd Small loss on the event, but very volatile scoring. Dunlap had
been 2nd after two rounds, but faltered over the weekend, while Oosthuizen had
trailed Sterne by 11 shots after two rounds, but still won. Still a very
profitable 2003 Sunshine Tour season though.
