1 win, 7 losses, +22.5 Pts profit on event Unusual with both Tiger and Phil not playing a WGC but certainly not short of players in form and really is a bit of a puzzle to try and solve. Having taken the draw into consideration with places being paid 1-4 the staking plan is all the more important....A case could have been made for O'Hair, Westwood, Schwartzel and many more but the pays are as follows.... G.Ogilvy 1.5pt win 1pt place @16/1 General His record speaks for itself and has started the year off firing so will definitely be the one to beat again.. The only factor I dont like is that I also think Johnson is heading for another huge week with a game tailored for match play and they will meet in round 2. R.Ishikawa 0.5pt ew @ 150/1 General His talent speaks for itself although a first round tie against Sim is not the easiest and Sim almost figured on the staking plan. The winner then has to play Stricker but the odds do reflect this and is deinitely the hardest bracket to predict in my opinion with a likely round 3 match against Karlson or Fisher....Ishikawa experience of playing in the Presidents Cup should stand him in good stead. R.Karlson 1pt ew @ 40/1 General Again a bit of a toss up between Karlson and Fisher but have sided with Karlson who while he has the inferior record in the WGCs does have the better form to date and is also 7 points higher in the odds.. Fisher has shown a little rustiness since the birth of his first child and hence Karlson shoud be able to move past him in round 2... D.Johnson 1.5pt ew @ 33/1 General Have missed the early 40/1 but providing the victory celebration of last week does not follow into this week Johnson has the perfect match play game with huge distance and a great putting stroke... Obviously has it all to do with a likely match against Ogilvy in round 2 but was expecting him to be around 25/1 this week so am happy to side at these odds. E.Molinari 0.5pt ew @ 150/1 Paddypower A bit speculative but another player who has huge ability and will be a superstar. Has shown great form in the desert swing and not sure whether the occassion may get the better of him but at these odds definitely worth an interest (only 90/1 with Tote) I.Poulter 1pt ew @ 28/1 General Has started the year off playing well and chased Kymer home in Abu Dabi. Loves match play and his determination and his never say die attitude is worth at least one hole every match. Would have liked slightly longer odds but does in my opinion have one of the easiest brackets to progress to the semis... N.Watney 0.75pt ew @ 60/1 Stan James Have chosen Watney simply because I think he is over priced. Showed signs of coming to form last week and is capable of making as many birdies as anyone on his day. First round game against Ikeda and if he can win that then may just boost his confidence and then he will be a main danger... A.Quiros 0.75pt ew @ 40/1 General Again selected for his perfect match play game. Huge length, good scrambling and chips in as many times as anyone.... Played very well in the desert before falling away on the last few holes in Dubai but is certainly worth an interest at these odds. I would have had a slightly stronger play but he is due to meet Johnson or Ogilvy in the Quarter finals....
