Outright Picks - European Challenge Tour

Tipster: Stanley

Peru Open

FINAL RESULT: 2-1; +2.25pts

Herrera 51st
Fernandez 4th
Rojas 5th

Once again Fernandez was the leader in both the 1st and 2nd round and lost it in the third. He finished just two shots back with a 3rd round 75. Could have been a profitable event, but a very late bogey saw Rojas fall back into a three-way tie for 5th place, though it will be graded as a two-way tie as the field will be graded by Skybet without Carlos Franco due to confusion earlier in the week.

Outright plays (1pt):

Eduardo Herrera to win 12/1 e.w. @ SkyBet
Siding with South American players - important to be close to home at this time of year and of the season - who has been playing most of their golf at a higher level than either of these two Tours. First selection in this respect in Colombian Herrera who safely kept his card on the Nationwide Tour this year. He did start last week and finish 2nd, so is certainly capable of repeating the feat against a weaker field this week.

Sebastian Fernandez to win 16/1 e.w. @ SkyBet
Argentinean Fernandez has been playing on the main European Tour this year, though he will be mainly on the Challenge Tour in 2005 having finished 136th on the Money List. He has won a co-sanctioned event - the 2003 Costa Rica Open - and finished 8th in Mexico last week, though he had been leading after the 1st and 2nd rounds. Hopefully he will find himself in the same position this week and hang on a bit longer.

Gustavo Rojas to win 40/1 e.w. @ SkyBet
Argentinean Rojas also lost his European Tour Card this year after being on the Tour since 2000, during which time he secured a number of top-5 finishes. Now he is back on the Challenge Tour where he was a winner in 1999 and back in South America where he has won seven times. A top-10 finish in last week's Mexican Open should be the minimum that he achieves in Peru.
