Of the top 3 in the betting, Watson is an obvious choice given his links record and in particular his
relationship with this course. But this is the fifth consecutive week of competitive golf for Watson
and it may begin to take it's toll. There is not much to separate Haas and Roberts but preference
would be for Roberts who has shown a greater ability to tackle links courses and seems to be
coming into form nicely. It's just a shame that the odds are so restrictive for all three.

Smyth has a very good record on his visits to this tour, currently average finish position of around 8th
and has never finished outside the top-15 in any of his starts. He possesses a good links record and
had his best performance for a while last time out at the Ford Senior Players Championship with a 3rd
place finish. Lost out to Watson last year in a play-off and should put in a decent account again.
Mark James 1pts e.w. @ 33/1 William Hill / Paddy Power James's form has not been that impressive this season, but he has been struggling with a disc injury,
a pulled muscle and nerve damage in his back, as well as a hand injury. Following a 14th place finish
at the US Seniors Open and an 11th place finish at the Ford Senior Players Championship it looks as if
he has overcome these. A fit James, back playing links golf and on a course where he finished 4th in
the Open Championship in 1994 is a tempting prospect.
Murato who turns 51 today currently plays on the Japanese tour with decent success, underlined by
four top-15 finishes in his last six starts. In total he has won 13 times on the tour, so he certainly
knows how to finish the job. From his two starts on the Champions Tour this season he has acheived
finishes of 17th and 14th and last season he won the Japan PGA Senior Championship. This is not the
record of a 100/1 shot. Admittedly there is a question mark over how he will perform at links golf, but
even with that uncertainty this is a very decent price.
