Women's British Open

Outright plays (1.5 units):

Se Ri Pak to win 12/1 e.w. @ Ladbrokes
Surprisingly large odds for a former winner of this event (2001). That may have been on the parkland course of Sunningdale, but she finished 11th in her title defence last year at Turnberry and is generally 2nd or 3rd in the market with Inkster behind Sorenstam. She has been in good form this year, winning twice, and shot 66-69 in the last two rounds of the Evian Masters to finish 6th. She should be at single-figure odds.

Grace Park to win 28/1 e.w. @ BetDirect
The second Korean selection has been in even better form recently. Before the Evian Masters, she had finished in the top-3 in four of her previous six events and had won once in May as well. She may have had a slow start in last week's event, but she matched Pak over the last two rounds to show her form is still intact. Only a final round 80 ruined a decent finish at Turnberry last year so she does have respectable links experience.

Meg Mallon to win 50/1 e.w. @ SkyBet and Stan James
There are certainly no question marks over Mallon's links experience. In her two Women's British Opens played on links courses, she has finished 2nd (2000, Royal Birkdale) and 8th (2002, Turnberry). She is also rested having skipped the Evian Masters and comes into the event on the back of a 2nd place finish in the Big Apple Classic two weeks ago. If she can repeat that form, she should certainly earn another top-10 in this event.

Matchup plays (1.5 units unless stated):

Lorie Kane to beat Laura Davies +100 @ Paddy Power
Expecting a Davies to be part of the commentary team over the weekend! She has been struggling with her game for several months and faded badly last week after a decent start. In her three Women's British Opens on links courses, she has missed the cut twice and finished 37th in the other. Kane played in two of those Opens and finished ahead of her on both occasions and is in far better form at the moment.

Meg Mallon to beat Laura Davies -111 @ William Hill
Straightforward  to also oppose her with one of the outright selections.

Patricia Meunier-Lebouc to beat Laura Davies -125 @ Expekt
Meunier-Lebouc's 24th place finish at Turnberry was her best finish in this event on a links course and she should improve that mark this week. She has finished in the top-20 in ten of her last twelve events and in that stretch she leads Davies 9-2-0 h2h.

Patricia Meunier-Lebouc to beat Laura Diaz -111 @ William Hill
Diaz does a good history in this event, but that is mainly on the parkland courses where she finished 3rd in 2001 at Sunningdale and 14th in 1999 at Woburn. She did finish 6th at Royal Birkdale in 2000, but missed the cut at Turnberry last year and was 47th on this course in 1998. When she has finished ahead of Meunier-Lebouc once in their last twelve common events, she should be the underdog.

Rachel Teske to beat Laura Diaz -118 @ Expekt
Similar story with this matchup. Teske has finished in the top-20 in the last two Women's British Opens played on links courses and is in the better current form. Diaz has failed to finish ahead of Teske in any of their last five common events.

Lorie Kane to beat Mi-Hyun Kim +100 @ Five Dimes
Simply opposing Kim who has failed to finish in the top-20 in any of her last seven events and struggled on her links debut last year. She followed up a runners-up spot at Sunningdale with 61st position at Turnberry.

Cristie Kerr to beat Hilary Lunke -200 @ NordicBet [4.5 units]
Not very attractive odds, but it is hard to ignore a 11-1-0 h2h record for the current season. Lunke's sole win was a famous one, but with a missed cut and a finish of 64th (of 78), there is obviously still quite a hangover.

Jenny Rosales to beat Mhairi McKay -111 @ Ladbrokes
McKay is another who could be forgiven a U.S. Women's Open hangover. She also missed the cut in Canada the following week and was only 47th last week in the Evian Masters. Rosales finished 4th at Turnberry last year and leads McKay 10-2-0 h2h on the LPGA Tour this season.

No 1st round plays.

18-holes: 2-5-1; -9.68 units

Outrights: 2-1; +4.05 units

Pak 2nd
Park 3rd
Mallon 37th

Frustrating final day! For the second day in a row, Pak held the lead over the final holes and faltered. Tied with Annika, she drove into the bunker on the final hole and it cost her a bogey and a playoff. In the 18-hole plays, the three selections averaged over 80! And in the matchups, all five remaining plays had been leading after 54 holes, but only two were left standing after 72. Fortunately, Park earned a top-5 place win and what had been looking like a great event, turned out to be merely break-even.
