Outright Picks - Ladies European Tour

Weetabix Women's British Open
FINAL RESULT: 2-1; +62.63pts
Ochoa 4th
Kim mc
Stupples 1st
It might have difficult for Stupples to come back after leading for
two rounds, but relinquishing the lead in the third, but not after the
way she started in the final round: eagle, albatross! Teske and Bowie
did get close, but Stupples pulled away on the back nine for a very
impressive five-shot win. Ochoa would not have matched Stupples'
19-under-par score, so a place win with the Mexican is a good result.
Outright plays (1.5pts):
Lorena Ochoa to win 16/1 e.w. @
SkyBet,
William Hill
and
Ladbrokes
The move to an inland course should suit Ochoa as she will have had very
little experience of links golf. She did, however, lie in 4th place
after two rounds last year on her debut in this event, but she looks a
more realistic prospect to win this year. She ranks 2nd only to Annika
Sorenstam in scoring average on Tour this year and so warrants
reasonably short odds. Sorenstam is far from dominant so 16/1 looks more
than fair.
Mi-Hyun Kim to win 33/1 e.w. @
Stan James,
Bet365
and
Tote
Kim ranks 5th in scoring average on Tour this year, so on that basis
alone she should be at shorter odds. She has yet to win this year, but
with ten top-10 finishes this year - ranked 3rd behind Sorenstam and
Ochoa - she has been in contention many times. The short-hitting Kim has
struggled on the links courses used in the last two years, but is
another selection who should favour the parkland Old course at
Sunningdale. She did finish 2nd to Se Ri Pak there in 2001.
Karen Stupples to win 66/1 e.w. @
Victor

Stupples missed the cut at Sunningdale three years ago, but she was a
different player then. She had missed as many cuts as she had made by
the event in 2001, but this year she opened the season in great form,
finishing 2nd in the Australian Ladies Masters and then winning the
Welch's/Fry's Championship on the LPGA Tour and to prove that was not
just a purple patch, she has finished 3rd in the Ladies English Open and
4th in the Evian Masters in her last two starts. This seems a very large
price for someone who went head-to-head with Annika Sorenstam last week
and virtually matched her shot-for-shot.
